LongLake Urban Art Experience Decoding Wireless
The “Decoding Wireless” project traces the history of wireless technology, highlights its importance in everyday life and demonstrates its material aspect. To do this, researchers from USI (University of the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland) and SUPSI (University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland) have come up with three activities:
FRI. 28.06 - WED. 24.07
All day | Piazza Indipendenza
The installations (in) visible history of wireless and No Wi-Fi zone
With the help of a timeline, you can trace the historical events that led to the development of “wireless” from the end of the 19th century to today. These events “come to life” thanks to augmented reality accessible from a smartphone. Can you also see some tubes sticking out? That is the material aspect of wireless that is emerging. Then enter the No Wi-Fi zone, a space without internet connection to reflect on the presence and role of wireless technology in everyday life.
THURS. 04.07 and WED. 24.07
18:00 (for approx. 1 hour)
A small group of modern Indiana Joneses, strolling through the city together with the researchers, will identify (in)visible wireless infrastructures and will observe the “wireless” behaviour of other passers-by. The group will be able to visit the installations and discuss them with the experts.
To register: fill in the form and send it to us via the website www.decodingwireless.ch (places subject to availability).
TUES. 23.07 and WED. 24.07
10:00 - 18:00 | Darsena - Parco Ciani
“Silent” events: the radio time machine
Experience the radio time machine: borrow our headphones and listen to a selection of radio programmes from the past and other audio content offered by the RSI archives. If you are a lover of silent disco, you will have to wait for the event in August at the Rotonda in Locarno.
