Singer-songwriter, pianist and vocalist, born in 1968 in Brescia but adopted in Ticino, Beppe Donadio has released three solo albums, all written and produced by himself. Merendine’ (2006), his debut album, is a concept album that follows the vicissitudes of Beppe D., an aspiring singer-songwriter in search of a contract. The common thread, the audition, is the glue of several musical genres. A previously unidentified object, ‘Merendine’ – discovered by Sergio Mancinelli on Radio Capital – arrives at RSI Palinesto and becomes a small record case that relies solely on the strength of the songs.
Ideally a sequel to ‘Merendine’, ‘Houdini’ (2008) maintains the same ‘cinematographic’ structure as the first work, with the singer-songwriter’s alter ego facing new musical adventures and misadventures in a mixture of music and acting. The song ‘Famous Last Words’, which closes the album, is still in rotation on Radio Swiss Pop and features Mark Goldenberg, a long-time guitar guest of Jackson Browne.
Illustrato da un disegno di Mordillo (1932-2019), prima e unica concessione di questo tipo da parte del fumettista argentino, ‘Figurine’ (2011) è il terzo album, impreziosito dalla presenza di Fabio Concato nel duetto ‘Il primo uomo sulla neve’, piccolo affresco della Grande nevicata del 1985. Alla sezione ritmica, come per i lavori precedenti, Elio Rivagli alla batteria e Franco Testa al basso. Nel cd, oltre alla voce immortale di Nando Martellini nella title-track, anche Michele Foresta alias Mr. Forest in ‘Chips’, canzone sull’incomunicabilità da tecnologia. ‘Figurine’ è anche un libro, pubblicato nel settembre del 2011.
Oggi giornalista, responsabile delle pagine culturali de laRegione, quotidiano della Svizzera italiana, Beppe Donadio – negli anni più volte al Teatro Dimitri di Verscio – torna sul palco a dieci anni di distanza dal suo ultimo concerto al Theater Duo Fischbach di Küssnacht am Rigi.
